Terms of service

What you can expect from CEagle, what we expect from you, and the fair-use rules that keep it running.

These terms cover every part of CEagle: the accounts service, the developer console, the program registry, the .ce domain service and the calculator client.

Using any of them means you accept them.

Who you are agreeing with#

Operator
Operated by
Alessio D'Ambrosio

CEagle is operated from Belgium as a non-commercial project. There is no charge for any part of it.

Your account#

One person, one account

Accounts are for people. Do not create them in bulk, automate their creation, or register on somebody else's behalf without them knowing.

Keep your credentials to yourself

You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think it has been reached by somebody else, change your password and revoke your sessions.

Accurate contact details

A working email address, so we can reach you about the account.

Age

If you are under the age where you can agree to terms on your own, ask a parent or guardian first.

What you publish#

You keep your rights#

You own what you publish. Nothing here transfers copyright to us.

What you grant us#

By publishing, you grant CEagle the permission it needs to actually run a registry: to store your program, to distribute it to anyone who asks for it, and to show its listing. That permission lasts as long as the program is published and is limited to operating the service.

What you promise#

Everything you publish
Is yours to publish

You wrote it, or you have permission, or its licence allows it. This includes code, assets, fonts, sprites and anything a build pulls in.

Is honestly described

The listing says what the program does. A program that claims to be one thing and is another is not acceptable, whatever it actually does.

Is safe to run

No malware, no data theft, nothing designed to damage a calculator or lose somebody's work.

Is legal

Both where you are and where it will be downloaded.

Addresses are permanent#

A project id and the address it publishes at are claimed for good. Archiving a project hides it from the registry but does not release the address, because a program somebody already installed must never be silently replaced by a different one.

That is a safety rule rather than a policy we can waive.

Archiving, not deleting

What archiving does, and what it does not.

Acceptable use#

Do not#

Attack the platform

No attempts to break out of a build sandbox, escalate access, read other people's data, or interfere with the service.

Attack the people on it

No harassment, no impersonation, no publishing anyone's personal information.

Automate what is meant for a person

Sign-in, registration and account changes are for people using a browser. Do not script them or work around human verification.

Publish someone else's work as your own

Including republishing another CEagle program under a new address.

Fair use of shared resources#

Builds, storage and bandwidth are shared, and there is one of everything.

What we ask
Build when there is something to build

Pushing to trigger builds in a loop, or scripting repeated builds of an unchanged commit, takes the queue away from everyone else.

Do not use the registry as a file host

It is for calculator programs. It is not general storage, a backup target or a content delivery network for something unrelated.

Cache what you download

Every program record carries a checksum precisely so a client can avoid re-downloading. A client that re-fetches bodies it already has is spending bandwidth for nothing.

Respect the rate limits

They are generous for real use. If you are hitting them, something is looping.

Ask before doing something unusual

A mirror, a bulk import, an unusual client. We would much rather help you do it well than notice it as a traffic spike.

Third-party applications#

You may register an OAuth application so people can sign in to your own project with their CEagle account. If you do:

Ask for the least you need

The consent screen shows what you request, and people notice when it is more than the job needs.

Use the data only as described

What you tell people you will do with their profile is what you may do with it.

Keep your client secret secret

And rotate it if it leaks.

Do not pretend to be CEagle

Your application is yours. It must not look like an official part of the platform.

Availability#

CEagle is provided as-is and as-available. There is no uptime guarantee, no support commitment and no service level agreement.

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the platform. If something is going away and it affects what you have published, we will give as much notice as we reasonably can.

Enforcement#

If something breaks these terms, what we do depends on what it is.

  1. Usually, we get in touch

Most problems are a misunderstanding or a script nobody meant to leave running.

  2. Sometimes, we suspend the thing

A program that breaks the rules can be suspended so it stops being distributed while we sort it out.

  3. Rarely, we suspend the account

For deliberate abuse, attacks on the platform, or repeated problems after being asked to stop.

You can appeal any of it by contacting us.

Reporting illegal content#

Anyone can report content on CEagle they believe is illegal, whether or not they have an account. Send it to contact@ceagle.cc.

What a report should contain
Why you think it is illegal

A clear explanation. "I do not like it" is not the same as unlawful, and we have to be able to tell the difference.

Where it is

The exact address of the program or page, so we are looking at the same thing you are.

How to reach you

Your name and email address, so we can confirm receipt and tell you what we decided. Not needed for reports concerning offences against children.

A statement of good faith

That you believe, in good faith, that what you have told us is accurate and complete.

We confirm receipt, decide in a timely, non-arbitrary and objective way, and tell you the outcome and how to challenge it. A report that gives us enough to establish illegality without a detailed legal examination is treated as giving us actual knowledge of it.

If something infringes your copyright, use the same address and include what the work is, where it appears on CEagle, and confirmation that you hold the rights or act for whoever does.

Security problems#

When we restrict something#

If we suspend a program, refuse to publish one, or restrict an account, we tell the person affected and explain ourselves.

What we will tell you
What we did

The restriction and how far it reaches: one release, one program, or the whole account.

Why

The facts we relied on, and whether the report came from someone else or from our own checks.

On what ground

Which law or which of these terms it was, and how the content breached it.

Whether a machine decided

We will say so if automated means were used at any point in the decision.

How to disagree

How to reply to us, and your right to take it to a court or an out-of-court dispute settlement body.

We do not monitor everything published looking for problems, and nothing here obliges us to.

Liability#

To the extent the law allows: CEagle is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for lost data, lost work, or damages arising from using or being unable to use the platform.

Programs published on the registry are written by other people. We do not review them, and running one is your decision.

Governing law#

These terms are governed by Belgian law, and disputes go to the courts of Belgium.

Changes to these terms#

If they change materially, the date at the top changes and we will say so somewhere you will see it. Continuing to use CEagle after that means you accept the new version.

Contact#

Questions, reports and appeals go to contact@ceagle.cc.
