Reaching a .ce name

Which nameserver answers, how long an edit takes to appear, and how to check one.

.ce is served by CEagle's own authoritative nameserver. A resolver that does not know to ask it will not find your name, because no root server delegates .ce.

Who answers#

The console lists the nameservers for the zone on each domain's page. Those are the hosts that hold the answers. There is nothing to delegate and nothing to point at them: registering the name is what puts it in the zone.

How long a change takes#

Saving a record bumps the zone's serial and announces it. The nameserver reloads the zone from that announcement, and falls back to polling if it missed one, so an edit is usually being served within a minute.

After that, how long a stale answer keeps circulating is the old record's TTL, not ours. A resolver that cached the previous value holds it for as long as that TTL said it could.

Checking a record#

Query the nameserver directly, so nothing in between is answering from cache:

dig @ns1.ceagle.cc yourname.ce A
dig @ns1.ceagle.cc www.yourname.ce CNAME

Swap in whichever host the domain's page lists. If the record is there and dig says NOERROR with an answer, the zone is correct and anything still seeing the old value is holding a cached copy.
